Hi all,
My husband and I will have an opportunity to adopt a second cat in addition to our 3-year-old prince, Neko the cat. He is a healthy neutered male with no disease. He is an indoor cat.
The story begins when my husband saw his friend. The friend's cat is pregnant and is looking for people to adopt the kittens. But I thought shelter cats need home as well badly. I was advised to adopt a younger cat, preferably a female, because predecessor cat may get jealous and he already has his territory. I thought it is more ethical to adopt a cat from a shelter, not a kitten who will be adopted more easily. If we decide to adopt a older cat (no older than 2) from a shelter, we will have to wait until we live in a bigger place. The kitten will be born in April. So by the time the kitten is ready to come to my home, we will be moving out of this small place. We don't mind accomodating one more cat in this place, but we do not want to deal with current landlord anymore.
So, what I want to ask is that when your friend's cat has kittens, would you adopt them? Or would you try to adopt a less popular cat from a shelter? (like a little older, not so cute, shy, etc)
My friends encouraged me to adopt whichever comes first. And, they said, the kitten may be better off being adopted at my home, than by some strangers who know what they will do.
Of course, when we buy a home, we will adopt more cats. (especially senior cats, or ones who stayed at a shelter for so long)
My dream is to see more cats being adopted and cat overpopulation stops. But right now I don't have a job (for 10 months).
