Does that apply only to gay cats?

What was their rationale for passing this law? If they feel it is cruel, painful, or otherwise deleterious to the cat; Then any surgery that is deemed cruel, painful, or otherwise deleterious to pets can also be banned. Then it is also fair to say that spaying or neutering a pet is also cruel, painful, and deleterious to a pet. Also, it can be said that collars are to confining and deleterious to a pet. Why do we elect such boneheads to city councils. I surely hope that the members of the West Hollywood city council aren't truly representative of the populus.

Spaying or neutering is hardly 'deleterious' to a pet. It's you boneheads that think that way that make it difficult to stop cruelty, and promote reproducing animals that are already being killed for lack of homes.

Stupid idea. Many of the cats that are 'spared' from being declawed will end up dead in shelters or the population of outside cats will skyrocket as people don't want their furniture destroyed. This was a very short sighted decision. More than 4 million dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters each year. That is one about every 8 seconds. That number will increase if more laws banning declawing pass.

Bullshit. Go to your local shelter and see how many declawed cats are available. It doesn't keep them out of shelters.

I agree that neutering is a good thing. However, I believe the point that MDR is making is that the Council's reasoning could be applied consistently and the same rationale could put a ban on spaying, surgeries, etc. Yes, it's an extreme example, but I see his (?) point. Let's just hope that the banning stops where it did.

There are already declawed cats in shelters - getting them declawed doesn't prevent them getting made homeless. I accept there might be an increase *for a while* - but once people get used to the idea that cats have claws (as they are in just about every other country) people who don't like the effects the claws have won't get cats.

Bob, that is such bullshit. You know NOTHING about my cats. They came home for the vet three years ago after the surgery. They showed no signs of pain then have NEVER had any pain in their paws ..... ever..... Your bullshit lie destroys your entire argument. I can understand why people would want their animals to have their claws, and for them, it's fine.
Cats in the wild need their claws for survival. Domenesticated cats do not. End of discussion.
