Dear Rick,

I like the plan. I disagree with you consider giving up the cats, but having said that, if you are determined there are a multitude of ways of rehoming them that are better than kill shelters.

On a side note, I read a while back, in some journal, that kids raised with cats are less likely to have allergies and asthma.

Good luck.

Hi Lee, That is a fact. Let's face it - for the most part people are too protective when it comes to kids. Keeping a kid in a bubble isn't good. We do live on a ball of dirt you know. Humans just keep trying their best to separate themselves from that reality. We are all related. Kathy K.

This makes sense though. Think about people you know with allergies to cats. Did they grow up around cats, or did they rarely see cats? My husband never had pets as a child, and he has cat allergies. However, he has had cats since he's been on his own (about 10 years now) and not only has he developed an immunity to all of our cats, when we get a new one, his symtoms are less than the one before, eventually becoming immune.

<Anyway, my wife wants the cats out of the house because, quite frankly, she's afraid to be near them now. She wants to stop using inhalers twice a day.>

What was she thinking when the cat were adopted? As a female, I knew that (someday) I'd either get pregnant & have kids or I wouldn't. Either way, it wouldn't affect the 'children' I adopted. Granted, not all pet owners feel their pet is like a child, although, many do. There's no reason to be afraid. Why is she intentionally disregarding logic? Read what experts say about the subject instead of leaping to an uneducating belief - like she is doing. Btw, what kind of mother will she be? Very little loyalty displayed. How precious is life (to her) anyway?

Dear Rick,

Not having children myself, this did not occur to me until now. My sister had an asthma like reaction to some prenatal vitamins. The Dr. Switched her and everything was fine.
