Three days ago, I brought home a cat that had been badly abused for 8 years. She had since been in a rescue centre for two years, and no-one wanted her because she tended to scratch humans! (Understandable really). Although she was very affectionate toward me in the resccue centre, she now only hides away from me. I know that it will probably take a long time for her to come around, I just wondered if anyone had any ideas to help her along the way?
She alo has increadibly long claws, should I try to clip them myself (when she has settled down) or take her to a vet?
Thanks Sue

no, won't take any years.. kind quiet, and really, use the special kitty language you will develop w/love everytime you see your little one..it works.. rescued feral outside, kept it in large cage inside, florida room, quite from family.. with view of outside .. oh, 3-4weeks, gently petting it.. had to give it tranquie for shots/neuter/vet chek. home, left cage door open..fresh water/food/litter, quiet room..
now, with 'sits up like a bear!' .. he does..due to voice it recognizes as love.. he even comes running.. have brot in 2 other ferals .. all a kittens, .. they all live together .. run in tandem.. quiet, their own names they recognize as love .. call to them, 1st one runs to bed to have his tummy rubbed! this from a wildest little one... think of yours as a person.. .. quietly, own language.. you are terrific & so's your little new friend!!!
