Naming Dogs, Some Thoughts

I’ve read recently the post on naming dogs on Fetch the paper and while I was reading I suddenly realized that all my dogs came to me with their names so I didn’t really experience the situation of getting a new dog and choosing a name for him.

Most of the dogs that arrive at the shelters already have names and if you take a dog or a cat that are older than few months it is sometimes easier for both of yo if you work with the name that they already know.

When I took Bony from the shelter few years ago she was so traumatic that I couldn’t even imagine changing her name on top of all the changes that she had to get used to.

With Bell it was different as she didn’t came to me from a shelter but from a friends who’s dog gave birth to six adorable puppies but she already named them during the time they stayed with her.

At each case it was the case that the dog came with the name already and it some mysterious way they had the right names. Maybe with the next dog I’ll try asking for the name myself.
