I've never encountered a feral cat colony where I live, and yet it seems to be a fairly common thing. I'm not saying we don't have them (in fact, a village down the road was complaining just Tuesday at a Council meeting about the number of stray cats).

I would like to trap/neuter/release, but I don't have a colony in my neighborhood. Basically, I'd like to know where to look, or what to look for in a feral colony, should I ever discover one. (And perhaps, what to do next!)

Sarah, If you feed them, they will come..... (sorry, I had to borrow that fractured line from Field of Dreams!) Put food and fresh water out in an inconspicuous place, where you can keep an eye on it. Any cats who are around, have learned to keep a low profile, and flee from humans. You feed them, they will be less likely, OVER TIME.. to flee from you. Good luck, Candee in CA with one that fluctuates between 9-12 cats.. all but 4 are fixed, working on them.
