What is the average time (weeks/months) feral kittens nurse?

Could someone explain how this works (i.e. does the mother slowly bring solid food to them or is it an abrupt cut off). Do they also need water at some point even if they are still nursing?

Hi john, Feral kittens begin weaning between 3-4 weeks old (when they're able to get around more independantly & find other sources of food). If you're concerned about feeding orphand/abandon kittens this link will be very useful for you. http://www.amby.com/cat_site/feral.html#orphans From Candid Cat
