I've adopted a semi-feral cat. He was formerly social, un-neutered, living in very large building, a '12-steppers' community center in NYC (AA, NA etc).

The 12-step people got evicted, and the cat was abandoned and trapped in the building for almost a month before I became the super.

I've been feeding him, and finally got him neutered, tested and given a clean bill of health.

I Have to use a trap anytime I need to transport him.

He hisses at me when I approach him, but he's been slowly, over the course of months, letting me get closer to him.

I set up my bedroom so that he can hide under the bed, and I've never touched him. I'm not really pushing the envelope, cuz I'm not sure how to do this right...of course I don't want to get my hands and arms turned into hamburger meat either.

I talk to him as much as possible.

Is there a website or FAQ that addresses how to do this?

Bless you for caring! You're on the right track; it'll take time for him to trust again. Keep talking to him. I hope that you are thinking of adopting him.
