I've posted this in another group before and got off-the-point answers so please try to limit any answers to the questions I am asking. I am not asking for medical advice, which means I'm not going to sue you if the cat dies.

This is a older stray I'm trying to help. It is either going to die, or I am going to help it. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I cannot take it to the vet.

Area around the eye is noticeably swollen. Smelly profuse discharge. Eye is clouded and appears shrunken. Other eye looks ok. Cat keeps eye partially or completely shut; appears to be wincing.

Here are my options:

a) Apply a human triple antibiotic ointment to eye- per gram 400 U baccitracin, neomycin sulfate, polymyxin-b-sulfate 5000 U in white petrolatum and light mineral oil base.

b) I have some old Bactrim tabs which I could reduce in dosage to body weight of cat

c) I have some old geocillin tabs which I could do the same.

d) wash eye with saline, clean outside area.

e) your suggestions?

The cat has had this condition for several weeks at least, it's either going to die or I'm going to do one of the things above, with or without any advice.

Cat seems to have had a reduction in appetite.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

Get the yellow pages out and call vets, rescues, whoever until you find one that will help you. I have done this myself in the past, and have gotten help when I needed it. There are kind people out there that will help you and this cat. Without knowing the exact reason for this cats condition, the medications you might try could do more harm than good, and some of them may be toxic to cats. Cats have a different metabolism and many drugs that are fine for people will KILL a cat. That is why everyone is telling you to FIND A WAY to get this cat to the vet, even if it means asking strangers for help. Somebody will help you if you are persistant, and the cat will get the care it needs. It's just going to take a little effort on your part. Maybe if you post your location people here can give you some contact numbers in your area of someone that can help you.
