My husband and I found the above dog on February 3, 2002 on the highway in Vancouver, WA. Pictures and a description have been at the local humane society, area vets, grocery stores and PetSmart for a week but no one has come forward to claim him. This is fairly surprising because he seemed to be well cared for and is friendly and well mannered; usually we end up with dogs after they've been through the wringer.

Regardless of his obvious charms, we need to find him another home. He is currently in Vancouver with my parents, but would be one animal too many for them (they have a current brood of 3 dogs, 4 cats, a pig and several outdoor chickens/ducks/geese/sheep). We live in a small house in the city and are currently dealing with the expense and care concerns of 3 dogs, one of which is undergoing treatment for brain cancer, so we're not a permanent solution either.

It's a male dog, probably about a year old, but I can't really say. People have suggested that he might be a mix of any or all of the following: Australian Cattle Dog, Shiba Inu, Finnish Spitz, Siberian Husky, Corgi, German Shepherd, Yellow Lab or Chow. He;s about 2 feet tall and probably weighs around 40-50 pounds. He's quiet, gets along with other dogs (6 so far), very playful with a hyperactive male dachshund and seems to get along with cats. One of the cats went after him and his response was to try to climb into the running shower, so I'd say he's at the other end of the spectrum from cat-aggressive. We don't have any young children around to test him on, but I'm sure I could borrow some if that was something that a prospective home needed to find out about.

He does seem to be intact, so he'll need to be neutered either before he leaves or by his new owners.

Down to the nitty gritty
