Changing Tradition Or Change Is Not Always A Bad Thing

Bulls

The fact that some practice has been the natural way of things for centuries doesn’t make it a right one.

The fact that a certain state or people has always done something in a certain way doesn’t make it the right way to go. It just makes change so much harder. I suppose that for many Spanish people out there the idea of banning bull fights might sound like banning them from being Spanish. It’s not. It is just a request to develop awareness and compassion.

In all things in life we all go around doing things that we feel are fun and usually do our best not to ask ourselves the questions of how does the other man/woman/animal feel. We do our best to stick to our own perspective in life, our needs, our desires, our beliefs, our traditions and most of the time do as little as possible to question them.

Can it be that what our parents, our forefathers, our culture has thought us is wrong? This is a question that most people try to avoid or in other cases assume that every practice that exists for a very long time is a good one.

There is a mediation that I do sometimes and it involves opening up for seeing the world from the perspective of the other side at some situation. The benefit is that you start realizing that there are more than one truth out there and more of one way of understanding the world. When this is achieved the attachment that we feel to our personality is weakened and we see that we can choose who we want to be and how to relate to the world.

If we are open to see, to feel and to broaden our perspective we can go a long way in improving lives for ourselves and others.
