Animal Protection And The The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act

The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act became law on November 27, 2006 upon receiving President Bush’s signature. Its stated purpose is “to provide the Department of Justice the necessary authority to apprehend, prosecute, and convict individuals committing animal enterprise terror.”

Will poter wrote about the discussion or the lack of discussion on the law in the following words:

They did it. Corporations, industry groups and the politicians that represent them rushed through legislation labeling activists as “terrorists” on the first day back from Congressional recess. Just moments ago the House passed the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act as part of the suspension calendar: in other words it was put on a list of non-controversial bills to pass with one swoop by voice vote.

The only voice against this law was that of representative Dennis Kucinich.

Kucinich said lawmakers would be better off addressing animal issues and demonstrating their compassion.

The main issue as I see it is that people prefer to think with their purce rather with their heart.

The whole campign for animal rights is to make people think with their heart, allow themselves to be more compassionate and really examine things not only from the perspective of profits.

If such a law can pass unopposed, we have much more work to do, and the sad thing is that the animals are those who could really teach all these hard and close hearted people a thing or two about compassion and love.

We can examine the situation and say they are bad heartless people that try and stop love and growth but personally I fell sorry for them.

Going through life without openning oneself to the pure love of an animal is a sad experience.

There is no reason to fear and fight such law, they can’t stand because they are trying to block natural feelings and activities. In the end love will dismantle everything else.
