Had a stray living in the neighborhood, tomcat. Shortly after he showed up I stopped seeing all my regular male ferals... he'd either chased them away or forced them to change their habits so they couldn't come around when I was in a position to see them. As spring and summer went along, I began to have problems with my indoor cats. He'd show up near an open window and there'd be spitting/hissing matches between inside and outside. On some occasions there were even huge cat explosions in the middle of night, horrible howling and screaming, cats flying around the house, knocking stuff over, wearing bottle brushes for tails. Seems that Mr. Aggressive would actually jump up onto the outside window ledge to get in the face of one of my cats who was enjoying the air on the inside of the screen.

My plan had been to catch the guy and have him altered, in the hope of reducing some of these problems. I became unemployed and canceled that idea, but after the beast began threatening ME (i.e. chasing me away from my own back door!) and tried to bite my girlfriend, I went ahead and caught him (not difficult) and had him clipped. I held him in the cage a few days, because he seemed to be a pretty personable cat in there (stray like I said, not feral) and I tried to place him at a local no-kill with no luck. Finally I released him.

He kept coming back (as I had hoped) and now seemed much more mellow and would let me pet him etc. My girlfriend decided that she would take him in, so I retrapped him and had him fully vetted etc. and then held him for a few weeks in my 'feral acclimatization room' (i.e. my home office). He turned out to be a very wonderful cat... he loves people, is a great lap cat, purrs like nuts. However my S.O. finally took him home, and the old aggressive business came back. He LAUNCHES himself at the other cats every chance he gets, literally scaring the crap out of them. In over a month the behavior does not appear to have diminished. She's tried keeping him in a cage so the cats can get used to each other without hurting each other, but all he does is scream and howl and throw himself at the bars whenever another cat is near. She's tried putting a leash on him so she can restrain him but that hasn't helped any.

So I guess we need to find someplace else for him to live. It's a shame, because he really is a wonderful cat, so long as there are no other cats around. I guess he's just one of those 'one cat household' cats. My S.O. is really unhappy with having to give him up, but the good news is that somebody is destined to get one of the most lovable (for humans that is) cats in existence.

No questions. Just a story to share.

You didn't ask for advice, but I have to say hang onto that S.O. She sounds like a really special person.

Reminds me of a cat in our neighborhood. I think it belongs to someone, though. It's a strange cat. It's very friendly (or so it seems).. it will come up on our porch, and want to come in the house. It likes to be petted, it will even let you rub it's belly. But, it must have been abused at one point because it doesn't like feet.

I wear sandals almost every day, with no socks. Yep, even in New England in the winter. (My threshold is 20 degrees.. below that, and I at least put on socks). Also, I wore shoes at 2 weddings I went to this year. There was a third wedding, but I actually wore sandals at that one.

Anyway, this cat will scratch and bite my feet if I am wearing sandals. I used to be friendly to this cat, but no more. I mean, I'm not mean to it, but I definitely tell it to shoo when I see it coming. I don't want it near my feet. It's a shame, because other than that, it's a friendly cat.
