You would be surprised at how long some can go in the elements! My grandmother had a cat that came and went as it pleased as she lived next to my Aunt's barn. ONe day, just before winter really hit, he didn't come home. We looked everywhere, calling and calling. No cat. About three months later, when my Uncle opened the tractor garage door, the cat came runing out. He had a cold and his ears and tail were frostbit, but the vet said he'll live and he did - almost 10 more years! He was the funniets sight after that though. He had lost his fur on his ears and his tail. We were afraid his tail might even fall off, but it didn't. The year he died his hair grew back fuller than it was originally.

3 months? You sure it didn't just seem that long? Always does when you are young. My cat Simba was stuck inside a garage floor (where he could actually get out...dumb cat ) for 24 days and I'm assuming the same place once before for 26 days. He didn't eat the whole time. I was tld they can go 6 to 8 weeks tops without food and water.

Cats cannot go without food and water for 6-8 weeks. In all of your stories, I would assume that the cats at least had access to water. In the case of the longer disappearances, also food.

Though a cat can live quite some time on little or not food cats cannot survive without water for more than a couple of days.

Since he was stuck in a barn garage, I am sure he had a few mice and water fromt he snow that flew in through the cracks. the building wasn't that tight, but without the door open, there were no spaces big enough for him to squeeze out. But you are right. They can't go very long without at least water. But it was definately three months. He disappeared early december and returned early March. he was an amazing cat for being the runt of the litter and scrawny as can be. When he got old he developed arthritis. I don't know why or how it happened, but my parents discovered that he would drink a couple laps of cold coffee and feel better for a few hours. Not something I would intentionally do, but they didn't see the harm since he felt better after a drink of coffee.

Thanks for the opportunity to remember the little Peanut. I still miss him.

Well, it's like this. I hired a guy that owns tracking dogs and he told me they can last 6 weeks. The vet also concurred something close to this. Regardless, I know for a fact that 'a few days' is wrong, basically because where I found Simba, under the floor of second floor in a locked garage, there was no food or water in the whole place. He was gone 24 days this time, 26 days last time, and both times, it was obvious he hadn't eaten the whole time. He was a fact cat both times before and was skinny to the bone when we got him back.
