I hope you reconsider bringing the cats to the Iowa shelter, and instead try to find them homes. The shelter does euthanize animals, and the odds of those cats being adopted are miniscule. However, the odds of the cats being euthanized are great. Older cats in shelters rarely get adopted, and the time they spend in the shelter is extremely stressful for them. Maybe you would have better luck if you went to your local news station and asked them to do a story on the situation. It would reach a wide audience and, especially at this time of year when people are generally more giving and wanting to help, I'm sure you would find homes for the cats. I know it may seem like a lot to handle to take on, albeit temporarily, 3 more cats with 5 dogs and 3 cats, but I walk this walk myself and currently have 24 cats. I don't think the 3 extra would be that much more trouble for a little while and you may be able to find some people to at least foster the cats until homes are found. Leaving them with the shelter is an iffy propostion at best, and the fact is that they could very well be put to sleep, which is an end result I don't think you want.
